All for Land and Land for All - Why our survival hinges on restoring our land

During COP29, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan stresses the urgent need to rebuild trust in climate action, particularly in climate finance, policymaking, and institutions, to accelerate progress towards a sustainable future.

In Saudi Arabia, land stewardship is an indispensable part of economy and identity. Over the years, rapid development and overgrazing, combined with rising temperatures have threatened soil quality and biodiversity, and exacerbated water scarcity.

Droughts have become an urgent global issue. Aggravated by human-induced climate change and desertification, they threaten all types of countries, negatively impacting food security and socioeconomic development. And prospects are not reassuring as droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world’s population by 2050.

On May 8, 2022, ahead of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed visited Soubré, the capital of the Nawa region in the southwest of Côte d'Ivoire: one of the country’s most important cocoa-producing regions.
