For women and children in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province in eastern Indonesia, the wait for drinking water has transformed from an obstacle to an opportunity, thanks to a joint UN programme.

Global life expectancy increased by an astonishing five years between 2000 and 2019. And then since the COVID-19 pandemic, it slid backwards by almost two. More than 110 million children have entered school since 2015 – but by 2023, 272 million children still had no access to the classroom.

As I prepare to conclude my five-year tenure as the UN Resident Coordinator in Peru, I reflect on how challenging and fulfilling these years have been and their culmination in many achievements for the UN in Peru. In this time, I have had to work closely with different teams managing the resources available to support the government in advancing developmental work in Peru.

Countries worldwide are accelerating progress towards the SDGs by embracing transformative approaches, with RCs and UN teams supporting national governments to drive systemic change.

Rwanda's national stunting rates remain high at 32.4 percent despite a significant decrease from 34.9% in 2018.
