Zambia has embarked on a transformative journey towards a digital future, making significant strides in recent years. The United Nations Country Team in Zambia, led by Resident Coordinator Beatrice Mutali, is helping embrace digital technologies can accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals by driving efficiency, inclusivity, and innovation.
Involving women and youth is at the heart of this movement. Resident Coordinators (RC) play a pivotal role in orchestrating a unified approach within the UN system and its specialized agencies to advance this inclusive vision. They draw on the strengths of each UN entity – at global, regional and country level—to craft a comprehensive response that addresses local needs to ensure no one is left behind, with development actions deeply rooted in local realities.
Nearly 40 per cent of Namibia's population lives in informal settlements, with little or no access to infrastructure and basic services, including water, sanitation, and hygiene. The Resident Coordinator and her office are acting as connectors, bringing together the strengths and expertise of UN entities and partners to help serve these vulnerable communities in a cohesive way.
