The work of R UNDG ESA is guided by the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR 2012 of the General Assembly of UN operational activities for development, the Management and Accountability System agreed up on by the agencies in 2008, and the UN Development Group strategic priorities for 2013-2016 further elaborated by R UNDG ESA/WCA priorities for 2015-2016.

R UNDG-ESA is committed to mobilizing, rationalizing and leveraging its assets in support of UNCTs’ assistance to governments of the region in their efforts to achieve Internationally Agreed Development Goals (IADG) national priorities; and to work strategically with our partners to identify and act upon regional priorities. Core Functions: Provision of technical support to RCs and UNCTs; Quality assurance of UNDAF/UN Programmes; Performance management of the RCs and UNCTs; ‘Trouble shooting” in complex country situations.

The UNDG ESAs Terms of Reference provide the mission, historical background and elaborate the functions and give a full array of the regional working groups and their TORs therein. Unique to R UNDG ESA is the Country focal points mechanism established in 2010 through which the directors have assigned themselves specific responsibilities for different countries to facilitate the interaction and two way information flow between the regional directors and UNCTs.
